Some cosmetic companies state that the level of harmful chemicals in any one product is not enough to be harmful to us. Unfortunately, this is a sugar coated public relations response and does not identify the true issue at hand. Medical science has proven that humans exposed over time to very small quantities of harmful chemicals do indeed suffer the consequences. Even small doses of some chemicals can have severe consequences in children and young adults. If you're thinking you will simply start buying cosmetics that say “organic”, “natural”, “hypo-allergenic” or “herbal” to avoid these dangerous chemicals please beware. Products with these labels still often contain these dangerous chemicals, minerals and synthetics because there is no regulation or standard that companies who label their products are required to follow. Read the ingredients.

Following are synthetic ingredients that are extremely suspected or known of causing cancer and birth defects.
- Butyl – Ethyl - Methyl and Propyl Parabens – Linked to breast cancer
- Diazolindyl Urea - Allergies
- Imidazolindyl Urea – Has contaminants linked to cancer
- Petrolatum – This can cause strong allergic reactions
- Phthalates – Studies show this can damage the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the reproductive system, especially the developing testes.
- Propylene Glycol - This chemical damages cell membranes which can lead to rashes, dry skin and surface damage of the skin
- PVP/V Copolymer
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – Can cause major problems in the heart, liver, lungs and brain. Skin and eye irritation. Could keep children’s eyes from developing properly and cause cataracts in adults.
- Stearalkonium Chloride – Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Neurotoxicity, Skin, eyes or lung irritation.
- Synthetic colors – May be labeled as the following: FD & C Blue1 Aluminum Lake or D & C Red
- Synthetic fragrances
- Triethanolamine – Cancer-causing agents, allergies, contamination concerns, organ system toxicity, endocrine disruption and skin, eye and lung irritation.
